The story of Joseph can be found in chapters 37-50 of the first
book of The Bible, Genesis. It tells how he was beloved by his
father, hated by his brothers, falsely imprisoned, and exalted by
Paroah. Look deeper and we see that Joseph never doubted that
God was with him and that he always put God first. His rough
treatment of his brothers when they came to Cannaan was no
act of revenge, but to recall to them the terrible deed for which he
forgave them. Through Joseph in Egypt, God saved the people of
Israel. So look at Jesus, Gods Son, sent into the world, hated and
crucified, but now exalted, Prince of peace and Lord of all, who
forgives us all our sins. May we accept His forgiveness, put Him
first in our own lives, and be sure that He is always with us –
Rejoice!

Director – Louisa Feltham
Louisa is the driving force behind SWORD and provides the initial vision for all the work that they do. She felt that now was the right time to do Joseph, as it has been an ambition of hers for years. Louisa trained in drama getting awards at LAMDA and RAMDA, and continued onto teacher training college. Louisa is very involved in all parts of the Church life at St Wilfrids and is a key figure in framing the spiritual direction of the church. She enjoys producing Christian Drama, and gets immense joy from the fellowship that projects such as these develop, and the sense of spiritual encounter. Plans are afoot for a dedicated Christian Drama centre in Leicester, and Louisa is very much behind this initiative.
Musical Director – Elizabeth Cox
"How can I keep from singing?" This is the title of a song but, as Aled Jones said recently in a concert at which I was present, this is so apt for him! Yes, I think the same could be said for me! Singing has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember and I still enjoy it !!
Singing in the Church Choir in my youth, receiving singing lessons at Birmingham Conservatoire, participating in the Birmingham Competitive Music Festival laid the foundation for my musical life.
Sacred music has always been very special to me as I do believe that our gifts come from God. I have been able to serve Him through my singing. The biblical texts brought to life through music add an extra dimension to my Christian faith. Working with SWORD over many years has given me some wonderful opportunities to share music and drama with Christian friends.
I am fortunate to sing with Leicester based chamber choir, the Cecilian Singers, together with OSJ Voices (Choir of the Orchestra of St. John’s, Smith Square, Westminster) when I have an opportunity to sing with a top-ranking professional orchestra in a unique setting.
Orchestra Leader – Anne Flower
Anne studied at Alsager college and Bretton Hall, Leeds university. She is a fulltime music teacher at a local college. Many of the students in the band are her pupils. Her work involves conducting and working with orchestras and choirs. She has been involved with music for youth competition, Sainsburys choir of the year, B.F.Y.C and Llangothlen Eistedffod. Past musicals include Hopes and Dreams, My Fair Lady, West side Story, Oliver and many more.
Choreography – Chin Kong Yien
Production Managers – James Ireland, Mark Wood
Joseph – Phil King
Phil lives in Great Glen, and is a Mobile Chiropodist. He enjoys his work, particularly the fact that he meets many different people, and is serving the community. He has been involved with the Main Street Theatre Company in Great Glen in many productions, too numerous to mention. He is particularly looking forward to his gran seeing him in this production, as she was unwell last year. He urges every one to enjoy the show and sing along!! Phil is soon to become a member of St Wilfrids church
Narrator – Lizzie Grant
Lizzie has always wanted to play the narrator role in Joseph, having seen her two sisters in the original proffesional production at The Haymarket. She was in Godspell at The Haymarket and Grease in Market Harborough. Lizzie is a trained Nursery Nurse, and works from home as a registered childminder. She has really enjoyed working with new friends over the past few months, and says it has been great fun. Lizzie worships at Saint Andrews church in Burton Overy, she enjoys water colour painting and cooking in her spare time.
Narrator – Beccy Johnson
Beccy is taking theatre studies at school, and also A level music. She also plays the oboe, but on this occasion opted for the singing part. She is soon taking part in the BBC Leicester ‘Internet Soap Opera’!. Previous appearances with SWORD include Hopes And Dreams, and she has also been in a production of Grease at her school. Her usual Church is St Andrews in Foxton, or Holy Trinity in Leicester.
Jacob – Mike Dack
Mike is a full time member of SWORD and has appeared in many of their productions. He has a lifetime experience with the theatre, at school, university, dramatic societies and with the Little Theatre in Leicester. He is a retired teacher (Head of English), and is keen on all sport and jazz. He is a regular worshipper at St Wilfrids. He loves visiting antiques fairs and tea rooms.
Isachaar/Baker – Paul Campbell
Paul has written and produced several (amateur) plays and previously with the YMCA Christian Roadshow, performed in most of the schools in Norfolk. This is his first venture into singing! Paul has worked with SWORD before in ’Christ In The Centre’ , where he took the role of one of the disciples.
Dan – Andrew Dawes
Andrew became involved with this production after a friend saw a flyer asking for people to audition on Houghton parish notice board. Andrew has appeared in Joseph before at Houghton and so was well versed in the role. Andrew works within the family business which supplies buttons and fashion accessories to Marks and Spencers and other leading chain stores. Andrew attends St Catherines church at Houghton, but is planning to join us more often at St wilfrids, particularly for the evening praise and all age worship type services. Andrews other interests are snooker, writing poetry and plays, and karaoke
Simeon – John Griffin
John was "persuaded" by Louisa to join this production, and has been involved with SWORD before in Hopes and Dreams. He owns a shoe shop in Oadby, and his church is St Pauls in Oadby. He lists sport, football and racing (from an armchair), as his interests. John is married to Anona, who is in the choir, they have two married sons, one daughter, and a granddaughter.
Zebulun – John Hadland
John heard about this production via Elizabeth Cox who asked his wife Gill to play piano for a rehearsal. Gill is now in the chorus. His local church is Great Glen methodist, although he spends more time at South Wigston methodists rehearsing with Wigston and District Male Voice Choir, who will be appearing at St Wilfrids on 28th March. John hasn't done any drama for about 24 years. He and Gill appeared in Joseph based on St James's church, Whitehaven. He is a founder member of Whitehaven Male Voice Choir and they provided the 'brothers'. Years ago he was involved in musical shows: New Moon, Lilac Time, Spellbound, Mutiny on The Bounty, but latterly his experience has been entirely non drama chorus work. He also plays bassoon in HP Sauce and Wysiwyg.
Napthali/Butler – James Ireland
James has always wanted to do Joseph, and has been a member of SWORD for 20 years! (How many of you were at the first production!). James moved to Bitteswell last year when his wife Mary became the assistant priest at St Marys church in Lutterworth. James and his familly have a long association with the village and St Wilfrids church, his Father being the rector here for many years. James works in Kibworth as a partner in the accountants Ireland and Longhill.
Benjamin – Chin Kong Yien
Chin was in the right place at the right time when a friend asked if he was interested in joining the production. Chin was on stage for the first time at the age of six (6), he has been involved in acting, singing, dancing and choreographing over the years in numerous events. Most of the time, it was self-taught. He also plays the piano, violin, and cello. Chin has found it especially helpful to understand the role of Benjamin after reading the story of Joseph in the Bible. Chin was also promoted to the position of main Choreographer after his talents in this area became apparent, and he has greatly enjoyed working in this role, and congratulates all those who have put in so much effort. Chin is a Clinical Scientist in his spare time!!!!

This is his first involvement though with any drama… keep a look out for him in future productions…!!
Zebulun – Malc Shaw
Malc claims that he was roped in by an old friend in a moment of weakness….!!! but that old friend remembers him being a child protegy, appearing in the original productions of Joseph at The Haymarket, and major starring roles in panto’s such as Jack and The Beanstalk. He also appeared in Oliver, playing the part of Charlie Bates. Malc is married with three children to Sally. He is an Electrician by trade, and is now a Sales Engineer. He enjoys swimming and running, and is a trampoline coach at a leisure centre

Mark has been involved with SWORD for 4 years, and has been in The Harborough ‘Mystery Plays’, also as Pontius Pilate in the Christ In The Centre performance in 2003. He is hoping this will be an even bigger success this year. One of the first bits of drama that Mark ever did was to play Pharoah in a school production of Joseph in Great Glen! Mark is involved with various groups at St Wilfrids, including the mens fellowship, and the homeless focus group. Mark is married to Liz, (Mrs Potiphar), he has two children and two step children, and several step grandchildren!
